I think the biggest advantage from using native threads would be that
different threads can run independently from each other. If one Ruby
thread blocks in a system call, the system may have spare cycles to
run a different thread, but it cannot, since it does not know that
there is another thread. With native threads, the system can schedule
following its own algorithms.
