Ok i had two ideas for the next version of ruby but can only remember
one at the moment.....

tr should only require one argument, the second argument should
default to '' if it isn't supplied.  this seems in the spirit of
ruby's path of least resistance, and would be backwards compatible

example:

"string".tr('g')  =>  "strin"
