Dear Davide,

hmmm ... the suggested code works on my system (Ubuntu 8.04 /ruby 1.8.7.p-22), both for scripts
and on irb.
How do you enter the code on irb ?
Do you do   

begin (enter) 
line 1 (enter)
rescue (enter)
line2 (enter)
end (enter) ?

I tried  instead

begin ; line1 ; recue ; line 2; end (enter)

This caused irb to work correctly.
