Tobias's humor holds a very important point.
At first blush threads are very attractive, they
seem to offer infinite convenience at no cost.

Be aware that there is no real cross-platform
thread implementation and that the behaviour of
threads among unices can be bizarrely different.

Event loops are better than threads.  John Ousterhout
may not have been a very good businessman, but he's
a brilliant computer scientist:
