Check out RMagick for generating the images. You can also RMagick to 
assemble short sequences into a video (AVI or MPEG) but for longer 
sequences you'll probably be better off using another program such as 
ffmpeg, mpeg2enc, or mmencode to assemble the individual images into 
video format.
