something like:

cksum1 = `cksum #{file1}`
cksum1.sub!( /(\d+)\s.*/, '\1')
cksum2 = `cksum #{file2}`
cksum2.sub!( /(\d+)\s.*/, '\1')

cksum1 == chsum2

Or is this not what you're after?
