Is there a core Date class or not?

$ irb
>>Date
=> Date
>> Date.instance_methods(false)
=> []
>> Date.methods(false)
=> []
>> Date.private_instance_methods(false)
=> []

Huh? And the only documentation I can find is on the 'date.rb'
standard library.

P.S. Why can't ri isolate core from everything else?
