I don't know of any way to change this. That's really strange, I use MS Outlook Newreader and I always had to *type* in my response. :-) Likewise when I previously used other products. I just had to *move* the cursor before I started typing. However, since MS products put several lines of extranious junk below the initial cursor position that I want to trim anyway (with the exception of the "From:" or "xxxx wrote:" lines, as the case may be), the cusror is already at the point needed to strart deleting. For example, ((Cursor and deletions starts here.)) -----Original Message----- From: xxxx [mailto:xxxx@xxxx.com] Sent: Saturday, January 05, 2002 12:15 AM To: ruby-talk ML Subject: [ruby-talk:xxxx] RE: The Ruby Way becomes, From: xxxx [mailto:xxxx@xxxx.com] > Hmm. Have you tried to run it with the following .... [....] Then I simply proceed downward to insert and response lines and trim extraneous stuff as needed, in the normal reading order. (Incidentally, Matz, Dave Thomas, David Allen Black, among other frequent posters, provide good role models.) This takes a little more time when composing posts, but when you have a large group of people on a NG/ML with lots of traffic, it saves everyone who reads lots of posts significant time and effort overall, and this reader-friendly approach makes their experience more pleasant as well.
