I'm hoping to substantially reduce the code count whilst still keeping reasonable performance, but as with any port from C to Ruby there's a hell of a lot of memory management and indirection to wade through making it hard to predict the actual gains and losses. There are also some aspects of the underlying design that don't fit too well with the Ruby way of doing things so it'll be less of a port and more of a cross-language fork by the time I finish. Anyway I spent most of last month working on it and have all the main structural areas coming together nicely. With another couple of months it might even be fit for a public alpha...
