If you want to learn the Smalltalk type features
of Ruby, download Squeak free Smalltalk
and mess around with it.

If you want to lear the Perl features, download
ActivePerl and mess around with it.

Then, try similar stuff using Ruby and you'll
see it's usually easier to do the same thing.
Also if you come from more than one perspective
you "get it" more quickly(at least in my experience
with programming generally.)
