If Ruby is going to be compiled on many platforms, then perhaps it should use the strictest settings on each platform? For gcc3, this means using --std=c89, or perhaps -ansi -pedantic. I doubt it would help in this case, since gcc seems to use the same strtod for both standards, but it might help in other cases. Ruby doesn't seem to compile, though, with these options; it seems to complain about _SIGMAX not being defined. Any ideas? BTW, I just noticed for the first time that the configure file does some checking for minix. Does Ruby actually run on minix? Paul
