Although I feel "damned odd" exaggerated, I guess people are pretty much aware of the shortcomings of mixins and traits were not around when Ruby was created. When it comes to singleton classes I rather like them, but you are right that they would not be needed in a prototyped class system and neither in a traited system as long as traits are allowed to be applied to *any* object.
