I'm working on a Ruby project right now that is very similar to Cocoon. 
 In actuality, I've already written the equivalent to Cocoon 1.8.2 for 
my employer in (*gag* *cough*) Visual Basic.  Needless to say, being 
written in Visual Basic it has many many short comings.  Sometime in the 
next month or two I'm going to start rewriting it in C#, and try to 
bring it up to parity with Cocoon 2.0.  

Now, rather than just jumping in head first I decided to take what I 
learned from the first version, and prototype the second version in Ruby 
before the C# rewrite.  I do most of my outside of work development with 
Ruby and Java, but doing the whole Java thing with Cocoon is more of a 
pain in the ass than it needs to be sometimes, so I'm going to try and 
make my Ruby project as useable and complete as possible (dumping Java 
for Ruby would be great imho).  That should be easy, afterall it is 
Ruby, right?  (Too bad I can't convince my employer to get off the 
Microsoft crap...)

Anyway, it's coming along and I expect to have something fairly useable 
in a few weeks.  The largest problems I'm having right now have to do 
with the various XML parsers available for Ruby.  Specifically, I have 
yet to find one that supports a SAX2 like interface (namespaces being 
the missing feature of XMLParser and REXML).  I'm collecting notes about 
the problems I'm facing and hope to post them soon.  It looks like I'm 
going to have to roll my own interface to Expat that supports the SAX2 
interfaces at this point (unless I'm missing something).

Anyway, I'll know soon enough if a Cocoon2 like environment for Ruby is 
feasible.  I'd like to work with some of the other projects to build up 
some synergy there, but I need to solve a few XML related problems and 
get some more useful code written first.
