A rich-text editing component is extremely complex and responsiveness should be a big focus. I remember the original pure-Java components...they were REALLY slow and got in the way. As long as the editing component has a sophisticated enough API and that API was completely wrapped by Ruby calls (like I did with Scintilla) I think it gives you the best of both worlds. Remember, you are always going to be tied to some toolkit for a GUI in Ruby. - Rich
