I would think it's better to go the other way: Run Windows in a VMware virtual machine under Linux - I run WinNT that way. Why? Because Linux is more stable. >I liked Mandrake because it seemed more up-to-date than other distros. >However, I am really attracted to the tight dependency tracking of the >Debian distros and the apt-get facility. > Well, I think that apt-get and the other apt like facilties are now available for RedHat and Mandrake distros that use RPMs, so you could get the best of both... >Can anyone recommend a good Debian distro for a Linux newbie? Well, if you're talking Debian-based distros, I think at this point you need to run Debian itself. Progeny was a commercial distro based on Debian, but I believe that they have dropped support for their distro (I'm typing this on a Progeny box that I'll probably convert to straight Debian soon). But, if you've never installed Linux before then you're probably better off sticking with Mandrake and try to get apt-get for it. Phil
