A "SpikeSolution" means a scrap of disposable code that proves a concept. But it disregards all your team's coding conventions (which on a healthy project should include at least TestFirst, Refactoring, OnceAndOnlyOnce, DependencyInversionPrinciple, InterfaceSegregationPrinciple, a Coding Standard and a Config Manager like CVS). It's called a "spike" because it's allowed to stick all the way thru what on a healthy project would be decoupled layers. Consider a single function that collected results from a Web page and pushed them into a database. This spikes thru the GUI, Representation, Business and Storage layers. Such a solution should be used as example code when The Real Thing gets re-written in an environment that includes those conventions. Here's my spike source; it requires an FXRuby with FXText: http://flea.sourceforge.net/textedit.rb -- Phlip phlip_cpp@yahoo.com http://www.c2.com/cgi/wiki?PhlIp -- All sensors report Patti having a very good time --
