Subject: [ruby-talk:29755] subclassing IO

I would like to subclass IO or create a class whose objects can be
used instead of IO objects. IO has a lot of convenience methods (like
readline, readlines, getc, gets etc.). Is there a IO-like class that I
can use that provides all of these if I provide a basic
read(numberOfBytes) function.

It's for a play project of mine for reading zip files, that I'm using
to learn ruby.
