If I try to connect to an http server with Net::HTTP.new().get and the server doesn't respond, the get call never returns (I've waited 3 minutes). Shouldn't there be a timeout? I can use a seperate timeout thread to do this, but I thought the tcpip stack should do the timeout for me. Also, if I kill a thread sleeping on a get call, will that leave a socket tied up forever?
