Hm, I'll have to look deeper into GCC than I'd like to find out if that 
works.

Theoretically, since my GCC install links against msvcrt.dll, extensions 
should still work.

I haven't yet tried to build Ruby myself, however.

Well, I wasn't planning on doing anything on Sunday, anyway. :P
