This works just fine with bash:

rab://tmp $ cat Rakefile
namespace :foo do
   desc 'lol'
   task :bar, :num do |t, args|
     puts "num = #{args.num}"
   end
end
rab://tmp $ rake foo:bar[123]
(in /private/tmp)
num = 123
