Logger#level actually takes an integer. Maybe something like this:

   if Logger::Severity.const_defined?(arg)
        mylog.level = Logger::Severity.const_get(arg)
   else
       puts "Debug level must be one of #{Logger.Severity.constants.join(',')."
   end
