I just looked through it yesterday. I think the depend tag is very interesting. Because it is very different to usual pre-scanning approach. I think using compiler knowledge is correct way. automake people also have some idea. http://sources.redhat.com/automake/dependencies.html Also, the following paper presents Makefile is not required to extract dependeices if shell history is available. http://citeseer.nj.nec.com/holyer00automatic.html While old good make style precious dependency with some scanning system is practical, but not exciting for me.
