Subject: http post is async or sync?

Hi,
I am using

Net::HTTP.post_form URI.parse(Url),                     { .......... }

in my application. But this slows the process, hence I was wondering if
this http call is synchronus or asynchronus? I couldn't find any
information about it so any help is appreciated.
