No. It sounds like your editor simply wasn't a technical person (somewhat strange for O'Reilly, but who knows) and hence didn't pick up what were obviously typos. If nothing else, they should have sorted out the font issues that were mentioned. Oh well. Maybe they were just in a rush to get the book to market since so many people had asked for it, and didn't spend sufficient time on the editing. I think all of these problems could be sorted out by having someone whose first language is English AND who knows Ruby well ... there are quite a few on this list ... helping in the review process, perhaps before each chapter goes to the publisher. I haven't seen the book yet, but I'm sure most people will be happy just to have something in English on Ruby, especially since it sounds like there's at least a portion of the content that's orthogonal to Dave and Andy's book. Don't let anyone discourage you. I'm sure you'll take the criticism on board and it will simply mean that your new book will be even better !!
