Hi, Recently I read the IRC log: <#ruby-lang:meep> hey what happened with the IO.select? did it sudenly change behavior and now return nil instead of an array of array? <#ruby-lang:meep> not that i dont like this new behavior.. <#ruby-lang:matju> meep: it returns nil when it would return [[],[],[]] <#ruby-lang:matju> meep: so i often write IO.select(r,w,x,t) || [[],[],[]] for regularity... When I originally implemented IO.select, I thought returning nil for timeout was a good idea (that tells you timeout explicitly). But now I think it's arguable. If IO.select returned [[],[],[]] for timeout, most routines could handle timeout well. I'm still not sure, so I put this as an RCR to call for discussion. How do you think? matz.
