This is provided that these distributions stick to the FHS and will 
never change. Since they stick to this layout, and use their own package 
manager anyway, why dont you let them sort out their own mess?
Self-contained Programs in a dir with versions inside is much easier and 
cleaner from an admin perspective in 2007, and they could easily run 
different versions of Ruby next to each other and switch between these 
versions easily too. ;)
