From: Mark Hahn Date: 2001-12-09T11:55:19+09:00 Subject: [ruby-talk:27991] system() broken in RubyCentral ruby? I wrote and tested a ruby app in the full cygwin environment with ruby 1-6-5 in win2k. In an attempt to distribute this app, I installed http://dev.rubycentral.com/downloads/files/ruby165-0.exe on a different virgin win2k pc. My app had troubles with a system call not running (and returned false). When I printed out the string in the system call and pasted it into the Start/run dialog, it worked fine on both PCs. After spending some time, I narrowed the problem case down to any string with a " or a \. This code works fine on my development full cygwin environment, but on the rebyCentral install, the last two cases fail (return false): system('cmd.exe /c dir c:') ==> works on both environments system('cmd.exe /c dir c:\\') ==> fails only in RubyCentral env system('cmd.exe /c dir "c:"') ==> fails only in RubyCentral env Can someone tell me what is going on?
