Subject: [ruby-talk:27875] tar reader (minimal) is working

In case anyone cares, I finally was able to get a minimal amount of
tar archive reading functionality by porting part of Perl's
Archive::Tar (which is not a good example of coding style, IMO).  The
code is in great need of cleanup, not to mention porting the rest of
the functionality to be a proper tar utility, but at least it exists,
in case anyone out there needs some level of tar archive access.
