Yes, the ability to write spaghetti-structured, unreadable, poorly-designed 
programs swiftly has been a great enhancement to productivity and job 
security in the programming industry over the past ten years. Why, without 
Perl, half the programmers out there wouldn't have job security! (After all, 
if anybody can pick up the program and figure out what it's doing, why would 
they keep us on the payroll?!).  And the "swiftly" part is good too, that 
lets us promise a program for six months from now, and spend five of those 
months playing really raucus games of "Quake" or "Everquest" or whatever the 
latest FPS is, and then whip out our quota of spaghetti in a few weeks, hey, 
now, what a life!

(Special note to the humor impaired: Look up "irony" in the dictionary).

(Appendix to special note: Ever get the feeling I'm no fan of Perl? :-).
