Currently, the numbers do not show up in the subject line if you read
comp.lang.ruby; they are only available if you read the mailing list.

The numbers could be made available on some of the messages if an
X-ruby: header were added, but the only messages this would apply to
would be messages sent from the mailing list (and not to messages sent
through nntp).  For newsgroup readers, google URLs are presently much
more convenient.  For mailing list readers, ruby-talk IDs are more
convenient.

Is there any way we can bring these two seemingly opposed worlds closer?

BTW, it seems there are already some X-ruby headers added to messages
posted from the ML, e.g.:

  X-ruby-talk: <12345$abcde$42foo@bar>
  X-rubymirror: yes

I don't know what it means, though.
