Is there a way to "intern" a string so that it becomes denoted by a symbol?

Something like:

# This doesn't work as I wrote it, I know
:repetitive_message <= "blah blah blah"

puts :repetitive_message
puts :repetitive_message
puts :repetitive_message
puts :repetitive_message
