OIC, you want to respond to combinations of inputs (from your original
message, it sounded like you wanted to respond to inputs depending on
the state of the emulator).

Have you seen [ruby-talk:26930] from last week?  It's an interesting (if
perhaps O(n*m)) way of handling the problem.

If your inputs are simple enough, though, you may be able to get away
with a hash lookup instead (which could be much faster).
