multi-methods.

The reason I'm using Ruby is because I'm stuck.  I can't find a
language that is:

  1) Reasonably portable (popular Unices + Win32)
  2) Pure OO
  3) Threaded
  4) Has multimethods

I could use Guile or a Common Lisp if it wasn't for 3.  I really
need 3 (Guile co-op threads aren't *real* enough for me).  I've
used Java before and have kind of a love-hate relationship with
it.  I thought maybe I'd finally learn SmallTalk, but I guess I
never realized that ST-80 isn't a language, but a Way of Life.

I kind like Ruby.  It's so cool in so many ways that I just
really really really want it to have (4) too.

In some FAQ/Intro I read, it talked about Ruby making programming
fun again.  As I said, I've been messing with it for all of one
day, but what I like about it is that it's as easy to use as a
shell-scripty-AWKy language, but it feels like a *real* language
(one where you don't need

    eval `quotecmd "\\$'\"""`

to get things done).
