I'm looking for the same thing, myself. The only thing I have found is to
host with a service that gives you a virtual private server, so you
essentially get you own virtual Linux system complete with root access --
this allows you to install anything you like.

The only problem that they are a little pricey compared with the regular
kind of hosting. I'm currently thinking about signing up with
http://www.lightspeedhost.com/

But I would love to know if the is a less expensive alternative.
