From: Sean Russell Date: 2001-12-05T09:43:51+09:00 Subject: [ruby-talk:27498] ANN: REXML 1.1b1 Hi folks, Well, many of you will be glad to see this release. This version fixes some bugs in XPath, and completed the axes; they're all implemented now. A bug in a tutorial example was pointed out and fixed by Diana Eichert. James Britt contributed some code that allows you to pass parse_stream a Source, String, or File. I'm really embarrassed about this, because James found this bug by trying to follow one of the tutorial examples. I fixed some more DocType-related bugs, and added UTF-8 support, which brings the OASIS test score up to 99.3%. I'm trying to get Ernest Ellingson's UTF16 -> UTF8 conversion code working, which will nail that last 0.7%. Barring any real problems, it should be in the next release. I didn't get to the documentation this time. The Tutorial is a bit out of date. I'll try to get that fixed soon. Here's what I'm planning for 1.2: I've asked whether Parent.insert_after should work with arbitrary XPaths; so far, the only responses I've gotten have been "yes", so I'll be adding support for that. I've been asked for to_a() methods for Parent and Elements, and I'll add that. UTF16 support, if I can get it working by then, and any bug fixes. Other than those changes, this version (1.1b1) is what you'll see in 1.2. I have one more request for comments: it has been suggested that the default behavior of write() should be to *not* indent the output, rather than to *do* indent the output, which is the current behavior. REXML indents the output by default because, well, that's what Electric XML did. I don't really care, and it is, basically, a one-character change is the sources. What do you all think? Which would you prefer? Thanks, -- --- SER
