There are reasons for splitting programs in certain directories.
So if I am on a Big BSD box and ruby would reside in /usr/pkg/bin,
there is a reason it is in that directory. The admin surely doesn't
want to clutter /usr/bin with "trash" which explicitely went into
/usr/pkg/bin. I think this attitude is just 'unfriendly' towards
the beginner *nix user, and not likely to help ruby with spreading.

Pardon, not want to make this into flaming or shit, but you can't
expect admins to bow to a program writer and start treaching some
policies they follow to have a clean hierarchy structure and stuff.

That's what I meant with arrogance btw :)
