The headers of mail and news articles support 'X' lines along with the more common 'Subject:', 'To:', 'From:' etc. X lines are different in that they are not interpreted by mail software, they're just passed through. An 'X' line typically looks like: X-xxxxx: stuff If you look at a message's full set of e-mail headers, you'll often see a number of these: mail programs use them to advertise themselves, and mail relayers use them to stop loops.
