"rescue" clauses should be either part of a def ... end construct like this


  def my_method
	...
  rescue URI::InvalidURIError
  end

or -- and it is your case here -- in a begin ... end construct like this


  begin
	<code which raises>
  rescue URI::InvalidURIError
  end
