1) It came that way
2) What about windows, et al?

There is an instruby that comes with irb that makes a one line
rubyscript to call irb.rb out of lib (it doesn't intall any
of the other files though, that is still manual).  But perhaps
that would be a better suggestion (i'm starting to talk like
our japanese friends...)
