I would have to start up two different programs in order to read mail and read newsgroups seperately. I read several different mailing lists, and ruby-talk is the only one that I cannot read by subject. The stupid numbers in the beginning ruin that. So one of two things should happen: 1) Everyone should be forced to use newsreaders instead of outlook. or 2) The stupid numbers at the beginning of the subjects should be removed. Choice 1 would be rather facist. Choice 2 would allow everyone to read by threads. (No apologies for my bias). I have been thinking of writing a mail client in Ruby so I could do custom stuff like remove the ruby numbers from subject lines. If I did that, then I could post references, and I could use references. Does anyone have a mail reader in Ruby? -----Original Message----- From: Niko Schwarz [mailto:niko.schwarz@gmx.net] Sent: Sunday, December 02, 2001 8:54 AM To: Mark Hahn Subject: Re: Clarification (RE: Re: OO AI) Am Sonntag 02 Dezember 2001 16:46 schrieben Sie: > P.S. What are references? Theyre used to display the threads as trees, so that you know which articles replies to which one. other newsreaders use the subject for that, however, thats not adviceful. it seems to me that outlook and outlook express do not set the references when writing mails, which makes it very very hard to read the ruby newsgroup. all i can do is to recommend you another newsposter =) regards, nick
