As Jim probably already knows, File.join alone doesn't cut it on DOS/Windows
because it uses File::SEPARATOR which is inexplicably defined as "/" for
*all* platforms. I think the simplest implementation of your path_build
method would look something like this:

def path_build(path, f)
    if File::ALT_SEPARATOR
        [path, f].join(File::ALT_SEPARATOR)
    else
        File.join(path, f)
    end
end
