Kind of rude?
This is not the Wikipedia list, and Wikipedia is only as important as  
you make it.

That said, irb is a kind of interactive shell. MySQL has a shell too.
Everything is not black and white.

Rather than the term shell, computer scientists could have called it  
a room or interface or seat or whatever. Not real important.
Variables could have been called variers or changeables or whatever.  
Not important.
