Subject: [ruby-talk:26641] TCP hang problem

I'm using the stable 1.6.5 and have been experiencing a strange problem
where writing down a socket (one returned by TCPServer#accept) sometimes
hangs.

This is a simple web server, so the connections are coming in from web
browsers and contain HTTP requests.

All my complex, multithreaded code seems to run fine ... and then it hangs
at the absolute last point of the processing when it goes to write the
data down the socket :-(.

Eventually, the write times out and I get an ETIMERDOUT exception.

This only seems to happen when other people are connecting to it across
the net.  Locally, it seems to be fine.

Has anyone seen this before?  I'm wondering whether it's a problem with
my cable connection or my gateway, which is what it feels like.

The strange thing is that this code is multi-threaded and when this
happens, I can't even get another request into it.  Since the accepts are
happening in the main thread, I would have thought that a hang in the
write wouldn't affect that.

Anyway, if anyone has a suggestion, I'd love to hear it.  I'm going to
try installing the latest snapshot, just in case this is a bug that's
been fixed.
