I keep 'group_by' (stolen from ActiveSupport) on me for just such 
situations:

module Enumerable
  def group_by
    inject({}) do |groups, element|
      (groups[yield(element)] ||= []) << element
      groups
    end
  end
end

array.group_by {|el| el.att1}
