hmmm... could it be that this problem is caused by something else?

When I tested the DRb example in our book some days ago,
which failed until I set the configure-options I mailed you.

The example ran and it still does today.

If you want to try:

require 'drb'
DRb.start_service
cl = DRbObject.new(nil, 'druby://approximity.com:9000')
p cl.doit

But I get the same error as you with your example, even
if I connect to other hosts.
