we will have to put it into *our* book :-) 

The problem has something to do with ipv6 support
in the 2.4 linux kernel family.

so you need to configure ruby with --with-ipv6 --with-lookup-order-hack=INET

as described in message ... 21072 of this list.

maybe someone should make configure smarter or set those
as default ...
