In a regex literal a backslash is a metacharacter, so you need two 
slashes to match a slash: /\\/  But to insert two consecutive slashes in 
a string to be compiled into a regex, you need four slashes: "\\\\"

Observe:

irb> reg = Oniguruma::ORegexp.new('\\\\')
=> /\\/
