Subject: no such file to load -- openssl (MissingSourceFile)

I'm on a CentOs, and that's what it says when it tries to load my rails
app.

i figure it's more appropriate here, since openssl should be included
with ruby.

 installing from source, (twice on Ruby 1.8.6), got desperate and tried
1.85... i go into irb and type 'require 'openssl' and it's just not
finding the file.

i've got the yum install of openssl.. can anyone give me a hand?

(ps i'm a newb to linux)
