I'm working (although slowly) a Jabber library for Ruby which I'd like to program in the "Ruby way". As it stands, I've been using NQXML, because this was the first I found and I had trouble getting XMLParser to work with XML-fragments (which the Jabber protocol uses). I haven't played with REXML yet, but when first investigating which XML parser to use it wasn't available. I might go check it out, but I would be quite happy to find one that's intuitive and one programmed pure-Ruby is a plus. I'm not sure. It should be decided by discussion, especially among XML people. I was thinking bundling "Ruby way" library, but others may have different ideas. matz.
