So, a quick poll request: what > features of Ruby do you think would most impress or excite someone who > hasn't used the language yet? What small applications would whet > people's appetites? 1. Andrew Hunt in ruby-talk:24520 " We had a lot of exercises during the presentation, which helped. People were actually *smiling* while coding, which I thought was fairly novel. Certainly not something you see often while coding, say, Java or C++. " It's true. That's why I wrote "Ruby makes you feel good." http://www.pinkjuice.com/pics/ruby.png 2. Nice sample code, showing nice and natural control structures, and readable code. 3. The latest craze from Japan, where it already surpassed Python in popularity. (if that's true) 4. An article by Clemens Wyss in the german mag IX Mai 2001 made me interested in Ruby; since then, I'm hooked ;) It emphasized pure OO; conciseness, convenience, power, very high level, ease of use, etc. then it went on to show lots of snippets, that show that Ruby code really is good looking. Basic and advanced OO stuff. (I'd prefer complete snippets, that run and p some info to the commandline) Tobi -- Tobias Reif http://www.pinkjuice.com/myDigitalProfile.xhtml go_to('www.ruby-lang.org').get(ruby).play.create.have_fun http://www.pinkjuice.com/ruby/
